Looking to move into an apartment temporarily for a couple of months while my new place is being built and of course they have the basic refrigerator/freezer without the water filter.

Want to get something for about 3 months of usage; best route to go with something like the Culligan FM-15A Level 3 Faucet Filter?

What are you going to use once your new place is built? Just the one in your new fridge? A whole-house system? Something else? We used the Aquasana countertop model for a couple of years, but recently used the converter it to make it an under-the-counter model with it's own little faucet. The filter on the fridge is fine, but I think this is a much better filter. Maybe if you got something like that, you could use it in your new house too. Drinking Water Filters by Aquasana

Yes, just the fridge. Not interested in a counter-top model, but thanks anyways.

Hopefully someone familiar with this faucet filter or something simply along that line can chime in.

I installed the Pur faucet filter for FIL- it seems to be OK for the price. And I'd stick with just that. Considering it's just a temporary thing. I wouldn't touch the fridge line. If anything where to happen (leak, or total line blowout that caused flooding) you could possibily be held responsible.

Default I hate faucet mount filters...

...they are unwieldy, don't have much filter area, prone to problems.

I know you you said you are not interested in counter top, and again that messing with inline filter for fridge is tempting the fates for renters.

Price of this looks to be very completive with faucet mount: OmniFilter OCT2 Counter-Top Water Filter Only $36.99

Omnifilter is solid company and the surface area of that style filter is far larger than anything you can get on the end of faucet...

Which model is that? Better or different than the Culligan FM-15A Level 3?

Default Faucet or Pitcher Water Filter?

Something like this is not an option; not going to the mess of tapping into the water line and all that goes along with it.

Want to keep it simple: faucet filter or something like or Pitcher Water Filter.

A pitcher filter is less convenient than a faucet filter, but I suspect that pitcher filters work better (if that is your concern) and they do not get in the way when you're doing dishes or otherwise working over the sink. If you are primarily concerned with filling pots for cooking with clean water, obviously a faucet mount is ideal.

When I was in college, I learned that a bottom-of-the-line Britta pitcher will make bong water potable in only two passes. That's some serious filtration.
