I'm looking for a chinese silk screen. The sort that folds and is used as a room divider. I can't find what I want in local stores, but have found the item I want in two different online stores. One is called Oriental Furniture, the other is Roomdividerstore.com There is a $10 dollar price difference (even though it's the exact same item), but I'll pay the higher price if one company has a better rep for service or packagaing.
Any opinions on doing this? I've never bought furniture or a piece of art online before so I'm nervous.
I purchased one from Amazon.com about a year ago and am very happy with it. I just wanted an inexpensive room divider to hide a piece of exercise equipment in the living room for a few years until we can move it to another currently unfinished area of the house.
I've never bought anything big online. My brain says "oh it is big, what about the fedex people?" But it is pretty much the same thing that happens on delivery to the store. Just check the return policy in case there is an issue. That is very important.
I recently purchased $1,300 of dining room furniture on line. It didn't go as smoothly as I hoped because of an order mix up between the on line retailer and the manufacturer, and it took nearly 4 months to get it. OTOH, I also bought table pads for said furniture on line (different site) and it went smoothly. I don't know if the cost savings on the furniture was worth the hassle and Mr. Dokie was about to blow a gasket. Check the shipping costs forthe companies you are considering - they can vary widely.

Todd, my UPS guy (yeah, were on a first name basis LMAO) says that my goodie bags make up for heavy lifting LOL. whenever im expecting heavy or bulky, or just a lot of boxes, ill make up cookies and bars and brownies and put them in a little gift bag LOL. During the summer I've also been known to load him up with veggies and herbs from the garden to give to mrs todd (have no clue what his wifes name is LOL)
ironically he has a family beach house near where we are looking to buy down at the coast. hes been a good source of moving/ neighborhood info LOL
I've bought bookcases on line. And a number of other items since I'm in the sticks. The trick is to sign up for their emails. I often get emails with coupons for free shipping. Or 10-30% off the price. Have never had a problem with shipping and the UPS/FedEx guys park the boxes right inside the front door if I'm home. Bless them. A lot of home decorator on-line stores have sales around the major holidays just like their brick and mortar counterparts.
As DewDrop mentioned, you can sign up in advance to get their email discounts or check retailmenot for any current online coupons.
