Hi-we just moved into a house and they have anderson windows about 15 years old. They had aluminum screens on them which I took off because they were filthy and having trouble getting the metal residue off the windows. Ive tried windex and car cleaning sprays but its not really working. I need something to almost loosen it because it seems to be really on there. When I put dry paper towel on my finger and really press it will come off but I have a lot of windows to do and looking for something to help speed it along. THanks-

Never heard of aluminum getting on windows?? We have Anderson Windows in our master bedroom..older ones as well and have never seen such a thing as the aluminum getting on them. I think since the windows were never cleaned before (yuk) its more than likely a huge buildup of grit and grime. Get a tool with a handle that has a small razor in it. Spray windows with industrial strength windex..I love this stuff...let it sit for a minute or two then try papertowel first. If grit won't move, then use the razor tool..lightly..so as not to scrape glass. It should work. Keep us posted and good luck!

Hmmm... probably aluminum oxide, which wouldn't be very reactive to chemical cleaners. Single edge razors in a paint scraper are the traditional way of cleaning window glass of serious crud and excess paint. Hold it at about a fifteen degree angle to the glass and flip it every few strokes and it will self sharpen and last longer.
