Can you put up a pic? It's really hard to visualize. You said there is a cabinet wall. Can you move the cabinet out 1 inch to open it up to 30 inch wide between cabinets?

This is an old thread but what I ended up doing was having someone cut the cabinets and I bought a new freestanding.

In hindsight, I could have just done this myself. He used a hackzall and the cuts are wavy - it's fine, I'll fill it and paint - it was cheap. The only negative is that he hardwired the new stove and I really wish I'd had an outlet installed because I need to move the stove for countertop changes and flooring, and now that's a big pain in the butt with electrician required. So if I have to call an electrician anyway I'll have an outlet put there.

My old drop-in stopped working so it was time. I put it on my front lawn and listed it on Craigslist as a free item - it was gone within hours!

Default 29" theoretical range

clazman: Did you find a solution to your problem? I am having the exact same issue now with a Frigidaire slide-in range that bit the bullet yesterday morning. Every appliance dealer that we visited yesterday had only units that fit a 30" wide opening or greater. There is a little excess lip on the counter edges that would allow one to make the opening a little wider, but the opening width would still be just a shade under 30".
