We're getting a house with cement fiberboard siding and part of the house (attic and garage area) doesn't have building paper underneath. Is there a way to fix that without removing the siding (they are pretty brittle)?
KB is spot on, as usual. However, I suspect that as time goes on the elimination of any barrier will eventually be banned except for free standing sheds. Even though it isn't the primary purpose of a barrier, a barrier helps to limit the possibilities of insect invasions. Both asian lady beetles and stink bugs have recently become huge problems, and the gaps in lap siding make wonderful entrance points.
