I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, but I was wondering what the minimum lot size is to ensure enough space between me and my neighbors so that noise from them will never be an issue for me. When I'm in my backyard I don't want to be able to hear their cupboard doors slamming or conversations, TV, etc. I currently live on a lot size of only 5,500 sq. ft. in a tract where the houses are about 12-15 feet apart and when I'm in my backyard or in my house with the windows open I can hear my neighbors music, conversations, etc.
I'd ideally like to be able to sit in my backyard and not hear any noise from my neighbors' everyday activities. And I'd like to be able to blast music in my own house, hold conversations in my backyard, etc. without my neighbors hearing.
I'll guess 2-3 acres with some trees between you and neighbors. You'll probably still hear some things like lawnmowers/loud cars/very loud talking or laughing, but I doubt you'd hear normal conversations/tv/music from inside home.

Multiple acres with dense trees.
The lots in my neighborhood are 1/3 acre, and we do not hear noises from inside adjacent houses, like the OP mentions.
But there are noises, especially since kids are playing outside more now.
And music carries, especially if the speakers are outdoors.
What a ridiculous question. Now if I "read into" your question the possibilities are almost endless. Like, how do you live? How do they live? Construction of your house? Construction of theirs? Climate conditions, orientation and elevation of said houses, sensitivity to sound, mental, and physical well being, etc., etc., etc!
I live on 5 rural acres that fronts to 100+ acres of hay field, backs to 100+ acres of corn field, and is flanked by woods. I may not hear any conversations or doors banging, but I hear roosters and the grain dryer from the cattle farm that's over a mile away. Twice a year I am also treated to live "music" as another neighboring farm hosts a field party featuring amateur death metal bands. Fortunately it amuses me--perhaps because they are very respectful and wrap up a reasonable hour! I might be less amused if it went on all night.
So yeah, I think 100 acres and a helicopter is your best bet.
LOL! We've got 15 and still hear our neighbors sometimes.
A lot depends on how sensitive you are, how considerate your neighbors are, and what the ambient masking noise levels are. Before boom box cars, and 200 + watt sound systems it was easy to get away from most sound. Consider adding a distraction like a fountain to mask noise.
If you have a neighbor who runs his motorcycle, blasts his boombox, have parties in the backyard, etc. etc., you also have to be far away enough not to be able to even see his property - a mile or more away. If you live in any sort of urban/suburban location, forget about it.
