I own a house with the backyard higher grade than the front. The side driveway runs along the east side of the house ends at the backyard retaining wall. Water tends to collect in the middle of the end of the driveway. There is a french drain all along the east side of the house and water that puddles in the driveway dips into the French drain and normally its all fine.
However when there is a torrential rain when the downpour is intense, the water flows so quickly that it flows into the garage, even tho the garage door has a good bottom seal.
I think the concrete along the edge of the driveway right where it meets the garage floor seam should be cut and an extension of the french drain should be installed there with a grate over it. Who do I find to do this work? I contacted our sprinkler/irrigation/landscape company and they said they don't do that kind of work.
That's cutting concrete, digging dirt and laying drainage pipe. Any general contractor ought to be up for that kind of job. It's not difficult work, just labor (and some confidence with the concrete saw so you can cut a straight line). It might be too small of a job to get really highly recommended contractors, but then again a lot of times they're looking for fill jobs when they have a lull on a bigger project.
Had a similar issue, got a landscaper. They replaced collapsed drain tile and installed a trench drain where the walkway at the side of the house meets the driveway.
Had the same issue and it was the landscaping/hardscape installing company that did the work. They pulled the permits, identified the existing systems, ensured the existing system can handle the new load, cut the concrete, dug the trench, installed the linear drain, restore the area, instilled a new bottom seal with floor lip, tested and finalized the permit. Now, when most say landscaper, they aren't talking about the guy and his lawnmower, its usually a full service landscaping company that also does hardscapes (think the person who installs the entire landscape versus the person who just maintains it).
