We are starting a new construction house. We will be living in a very rural area and will be relying on our meat being in the freezer which could include Deer, Beef and anything smaller. LOL.

We had heard that the walk-in Freezers were cheaper to run vs 3 regular type freezers. But then today we seen a website that said they cost about 200 bucks a month to run.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Thanks

If you are considering a true free standing walk-in freezer you need to consider the whole way it is configured. Something that is stuffed full of solidly frozen beef & venison in primal cuts with some stabilizing blocks of ice that gets visited maybe once week or so is going have a very different energy use profile than something that you are running into to grab some cubes for margaritas every night. Personally even the restaurants that I frequent tend to find it more economical to have more frequent trips from their suppliers than using a whole lot of energy keeping big boxes of stuff frozen. I have seen people that put small commercial freezers (8x8, etc) in their garage. By setting it in the garage area, it is easily accessible to service, easy to connect to the compressor on the outside of the garage. However, just realize that if you sell, you will probably get very little return. For that matter, it may be considered personal property and not real estate. Finally, they are a short-lived item. The ability to replace the unit is important if you plan to keep one long-term.

Check out the commercial refrigeration companies for such nits.

Restrain.. That's exactly what we planned to do was keep it in the garage. And it would only be visited once in a while. We would have a standard fridge/freezer in the kitchen. But what you say about them being a short-lived item... We may rethink things. We don't plan to resell. This is our retirement home we are building. It's up to our kids after that! LOL

I see what you're getting at, but I doubt they're going to want to keep you in the freeze regardless of how big it is.
