Hi everyone;

Check out the image below - its of an open concept design with kitchen and living room - what I dont like is the TILE portion of the kitchen is different from Hardwood and just looks awful

I know water leaks from dishwater etc and was persuaded NOT to use same hardwood throughout living/kitchen space - but what about using some type of tile/other product? that looks like hardwood?

Any ideas for below picture?

I dont like the look of it either, the flooring should all be the same. I see a lot of homes do this, and I agree with you, I hate it.

How often does things leak?
I have a wood floor in my bathroom for the last 25 years, nothing overflowed or leaked...get real wood for the whole floor

Check on the tiles. Are they screen printed?

I believe it comes down to personal preference.
I see nothing wrong with it- some people like tile for a kitchen. Makes spills and messes easier to clean up. In that particular scenario it also helps "define" the space.

Personally, I would have one or the other throughout- just depends on the decor/design you want to achieve.

Using hardwood next to a tile that's suppose to mimic hardwood usually looks worse than what's in the pic you posted.

I think it looks fine. But even if you got the tile that looked like wood, it still wouldn't match the actual hardwood. So it would still look the same as it does now or worse.

should have just run the wood flooring into the kitchen. Those are pre-finished, engineered flooring products and far more resistant to minor spills than solid wood floors installed 50 years ago.

You 'could' tear it out and go with a high quality porcelain tile meant to resemble wood flooring but you will never find an exact match and having it slightly off will look worse than the existing tile.

a lower cost alternative to remove/replace would be to cut away from the edge to align with the inner wall and install an accent saddle tile border but, honestly, I don't think it will help. The flooring lines are awkward to begin with.

There are other unfortunate design choices in that place.

why is this window not centered?

And what's up with that silly little corner sink in the kitchen?

wouldn't it be a mess to take up all that tile in the kitchen. I agree - it wouldn't look much better to put in another form of tile, even if the tile looks the same as the wood floor. Either leave it as is (you will get used to it) or continue the same floor into the kitchen - just use cleanable rugs near the sink and Dishwasher.
