I am trying to get all details needed to design a cost efficient custom house that can be actually built. I have this piece of property in rural TX where I may such a home built.
Drawing up a floor plan is easy part, but how can properly design the roof, rafters & framing so that house is solid? Anyone know any websites or architecture book that details what is required for roof/rafters/framing that will work? Also, looking for details on pro /cons on different types of raft trusses/designs.
Last but not least, is there any software out were you can input the design to verify its structurally sound. And more importantly, an estimate of cost to build it?
Thanks in advance!
Wood framing is prescriptive. The design specs are all published in the building code. I assume Texas uses the IBC.
I met the principle Pfeiffer about 8-9 years ago at an industry event when he presented on building science and they know their stuff and know your climate.
Depending on how much you want to try learning yourself versus having someone design an optimized plan for your land based on climate / topography / etc... contact a professional it will be worth it, just make sure they know building science.
