The sizing needs to be washed out of the fabric as another poster already said. Same with new clothes. Except mens suits.

Until I came to sites like this it never would have occurred to me.

I suspect that those sheets will never be cleaner than they are when they come from the factory.

Oh sure and I wash the trash before taking it out too.

Actually I tell my wife to take the trash out, she cooked it.

No if it new I do no wash it. That seems pointless to me. If it had a strong chemical smell, then I might change my mind, but of the 3 sets of new sheets we bought in the last year, for our new bed, I did not wash any of them upon opening the package. Our new bed was delivered late in the day anyhow, along with sheets to fit, so I had no choice but to use them, unless I wanted a night on the sofa.

The way I look at it...

I wouldn't take a brand new suit to the dry cleaners. The chances of it coming back damaged are not insignificant.

I take underwear and socks directly out of the plastic and put them on.

When I was working, I bought new shirts every few months, I certainly didn't take them out of the package and send them to the cleaners.

Dockers, the same...
New coats, the same...
New casual dress jackets, the same...

Shoes and sneakers, wear them out of the store...

Dress or casual Dress slacks, right to the closet, the cleaners will have them soon enough.

Those sheets are going to be on my skin as long as my other "new clothes." No, I wouldn't bother unless they smelled bad - but then in that case I wouldn't have bought them.

yes, anything that is fabric.
towels
sheets, dish towels, socks
shirts
everything.

when i was little my mother used to make us wear new clothes and i always hated the feel and smell of them. I must have issues because anything that i buy fabric, after i take the tags off, I put right in the hamper to wash.

i hate that new smell, plus there are chemicals on them from when they were made, and how many hands did those bath towels touch before I buy them?

blech !!

Absolutely. I have a couple reasons for this...

-As mentioned by others, the sizing in the fabric is itchy to me.
-Simple cleanliness and the great feeling of freshly washed sheets

-Quality of the sheets. This one is a biggie for me. I wash them the day I get them home. I've purchased sheets that came out of the dryer looking like laundered kleenex - and they weren't cheap sheets! I've also had sheets that shrunk to a point that they didn't fit the mattress well. I want to know if there are quality issues with the sheets ASAP so I can return them quickly if necessary.

No, I have no allergies and I just love the feel of the crispy brand new sheets. Have only had one set of sheets that I loved even after washing as they required ironing at least the top sheet and pillow cases. My king is just too big to iron so they are wrinkle resistant sheets and aren't as crisp after washing. I don't wash my clothes either, I like the feel when they are new. Washing takes all that crispness out of them.
