Bigfoot? All we've ever seen is a glimpse of them.

I might not even bother it, but you can't get into the shed without stepping over the hole. And I'll be damned if I'm doing that. (At least if it had been on the side, I MIGHT take a chance of going to the shed. But with the hole in right at the base, in front of the front door...no way. I'd say the hole is about.....10 inches around. I have no intention of going close enough to even guess at how deep is it.
That sounds exactly like a groundhog entrance hole. You might want to search your property for a second hole - they always have an exit hole as well.

I agree it's probably a groundhog. I've got them in my yard and they scoot under my shed when they are frightened by something. They dug a lovely hole in the ground on one side of the shed.

I would rather have a groundhog under my shed than a skunk, but that's just me.

I have had a River Otter living alone in my wood shed for awhile now. It doesn't harm anything. River Otters are brown, and smaller, and sleeker, than Ground Hogs and Beavers imo. If you live near water, it may be a River Otter. They can run and swim pretty fast, too.

I know this isn't much help.....I'd say low to the ground....it didn't waddle it. it got out of dodge in a bee line.

A possum is VERY low to the ground and waddles so it wasn't like that. It moved quickly like a cat would, so it had speed -- and it was sort of just. above. the ground cover....as opposed to through it. It wasn't that low.

It was about skunk height. I just don't think that's what it was. It just wasn't the normal skunk, black with definite stripes.

Kelly237, wow. A fisher? Never heard of that. I've also never seen one. If it is it'd be the first one seen around here that I know of....so I don't think so. But thanks. You learn something new very day. The size looks right but something about it -- isn't it.

I'm not near a forest. I'm in a city backyard in the mid-Atlantic. Not inner city.....suburban-like with grass and landscaped front and backyards. Sort of like the closest thing to suburban but technically right in the city at the county line.

Granted the entire neighborhood DECADES and DECADES ago was built near a marsh and creek area......and a wildlife preserve is about a mile and a half away....but the neighborhood itself is not forested or adjacent to the creek or refuge. They're close, but not right at us. Like I said about a mile away.
