Just looking into finishing only about 2/5 of our basement. Would be pretty simple. 8 foot ceilings. No plumbing no kitchen no bathroom. Just some frame drywall and a couple outlets. It would be a rectangle shape so pretty easy job

Can this be done for $5,000 or under by a legit company? Not country boy Cletus and his 40 year old truck

Lol

Well we had a quote for the entire basement before and that was 1000 sq Ft a small kitchen and a full bath (plumbing added to foundation) and that was going to be 25 to 30k nicely done

So say 30k minus kitchen minus full bath. No plumbing and 600 less feet of finished space

How much should it be?

No way of telling without much more info.

Are you talking labor only, or labor and materials? Are you framing only the perimeter of the space, or are you installing interior walls? How many outlets, how far are you from the panel, and can the panel support additional circuits? Drywall only, or base molding and paint? Do you need a door and frame? Are you going to go legit and pull permits, or will this be an illegal unpermitted mod? Is the subfloor level and ready to be carpeted, or does it need prep? Are you extending ductwork for forced air, it is the space unconditioned? Ceiling?

I hope you can see that any answers you get will vary wildly depending on your project. I can say that $12/sf, which seems to be your approximate budget, is pretty low for a labor and material finishes job. You might be able to get a very simple job done, but it also depends on your schedule and 5he local construction economy.

Labor and materials

Framing and Sheetrock. 3 or 4 outlets. Close to panel. Standard molding at bottom. Will paint ourselves. 1 door and frame.

No permits ( not giving the tax man 1 more penny than I have to)

Don’t think the ductwork has to be touched

Maybe spray paint ceiling black or do the tiles

Level and ready for carpet

Best off just pay someone to frame what you want to finish.

Then do the sheetrock, wiring, flooring yourself.

Then tell me how much you think that work was worth.

Wanting a legit company, then asking them to break the law, is somewhat contradictory.

There’s plenty of legit contractors that will do the work without asking a city to put up some wood
