I'm buying a house. Two of the outside walls have rust stains on the vinyl siding. It was from well water that sprayed on the house when the sprinklers were on. The water has long since been switched to county water.

The stains are largish. Will they clean off? With what?
Will paint cover them?
Or should I just plan to replace the siding?

The house is only 1000 square feet. A screened porch covers one end and I would not replace that. there is nothing wrong with the 4th wall.

I'd replace it. Not that expensive.

Citric acid-

It's the same chemical used to remove rust stains for pools. The stains you have on your siding is from the iron (think rust) in the ground.

Citric or oxalic acid may work. There is also a possibility of the stains being tannins from a shallow well. Diluted bleach or house wash would help.
