I think the black buildup on the bottom of my frying pans is causing an increase in the amount of time it takes for a pan to heat up. Is there a way to remove that black buildup. I tried using a grinding wheel in my dremel tool but it doesn't really do it. Maybe a larger grinding wheel? Or maybe something else that you know of.
That's what I was going to suggest. It's just soot I would think in which case Brillo pads should take care of it. And I think you may just be thinking the buildup is causing slower warmup when it really isn't. Can't imagine a situation where a grinding wheel would be called for.

The carbon (black buildup) on pans actually allows the pan to heat up and radiate that heat faster.
For the outside of pans use easy off or carbon off. There should be YouTube clips of this.
