Hi All-

Does anyone have any experience with either basement products?

I was considering finishing off half of my basement on my own little by little but am slightly intrigued by these systems.

Newpro claims to be much less costly than traditional building supplies as they are manufactured panels I believe. I'm a little skeptical but thought I'd see what others had to say-

Cheers-

Check here:

That Home Site! Search

I get a lot of good advice there, just like here!

No matches there for Newpro.

Owens corning is a decent system that is WAYYYYYY overpriced. We have a 3500 sq foot house (1st and 2nd floor) and our footprint is about 1500 sq feet (more or less). We wanted about 750 of that in the basement finished..

Owens Corning came out to do "the sale" - well - they call it a consultation, but what they really think is that you will write them a HUGE check.

They were dancing around the number $60K - but if we signed up RIGHT THEN AND THERE they'd deduct $10K.

Much like the high pressure sales at a GYM ... "THIS DISCOUNT IS ONLY AVAILABLE TODAY".

You could do pretty close to the same with metal studs and paperless drywall.. that's what we'll end up doing when the time comes.

Oh and their panels are all one color. And I don't care about the color matched cover strips - it still looks like a cheap panel system. And they DON'T do drywall ceilings - they do cheap drop ceilings.

WAY OVERPRICED

I guess it depends on who comes to your home to do the sale for the owens-corning product. We had it done a couple of years ago and we love it! there is nothing cheap looking about the panels or the ceiling. yes, the panels are only one color, but you can choose a couple of options for the trim. we chose the oak trim and put in an armstrong sheet vinyl flooring that looks like hardwood. we purchased an area rug for our tv viewing/seating area. the recessed lighting, with dimmers is great! We are extremely pleased and would recommend it. It gives the basement a warm feel and we wished that we would have done it much sooner. our cost was around 28,000

After reading other reviews online I am going to finish my basement myself. Supplies that I already priced out will be about $6K and it should take me about a month to finish...

We did have a contractor come out and give us a quote for $10K. Of course that is traditional materials but many of which are just as good, if not better than Owens Corning...
