I cant reach the top half of my foyer and the rest needs to be painted. I tried myself with a tall latter but found that I'm afraid of heights and ended up with horrible lines on the ceiling in one area. The lower half is done (1 coat anyway). The ceilings are about 15 feet high. I put an add on CL and getting all sorts of quotes all over the place and want to know what is a fair price. Thanks for any input. :-)

Can you buy one of the telescopic extensions for a roller and work from the ground or maybe not from such a height?

I'm not sure how that would work, because I would still need to cut in at the ceiling.

I don't understand what you mean. What do you mean by cut in?

The part between the wall and the ceiling. In all my other rooms I used a paint brush to make a nice clean line.

Not sure what area you are in, but I would charge right around $100-$125 to do it. That's judging the size of the foyer from the picture, btw, so if you have actual area measurements I could be more specific.

If you hire a professional painter, expect to pay a decent amount for the work. And trying to give an average price is nearly impossible, since there doesn't really seem to be a standard pricing for it. I've seen guys charge anywhere from $75 to $225 to paint 1 bedroom.

Starting from the far left; 6 feet wide, 8 feet, 3.5 feet, and a small amount needs to be painted on the far light wall that is also 3.5 feet wide.ceiling starts around 15 feet and ends at 18 or so.

If you're only talking about finishing out what is unpainted, and feathering it into the previously painted area, I'd charge $100. Fair warning though, it may need a second coat in order to tie it in correctly, so don't be surprised if anyone suggests it. The trick to painting is to paint it all at once, keeping a "wet edge" to make sure there aren't any roller marks. Since this paint is already dry, there's a good chance it will be noticeable where you tie in unless you do a second coat in the flat areas. For finishing out what needs to be done and doing a second coat, I'd say you're looking at $125-$150. At least, that would be my charge on it.

If the ceilings weren't 15 feet high (meaning the painter will need to break out the big ladder instead of the normal 4' one) it would be closer to the $100 mark.

They are probably going to have to go back over the part you started. Otherwise you will have 'tiers' of different roller marks that will be noticeable when the paint dries.

Fair price depends on where you live. This website has lists of what people paid, what they had done (size of room, supplies included/not included) where they live, and how recent their price was, that might help you figure out what is a fair price in your area.

I'd just get a ladder though.

Great tips. Kodaka, did you miss the part where I said I'm afraid of heights?

I figured it would take to coats, since it did in the rest of the house. I just waited what you see already painted today, so the paint has not cured yet. I plan to do the 2nd coat of the bottom half after I have someone come in and paint the top half, if that makes sense.
