Mama's on South Gessner has some Indian stuff, and Fiesta has the most obvious things, but I've yet to come across asafoetida.

Have you tried Phoenicia on Westheimer?

PHOENICIA (http://www.phoeniciafoods.com/index.html - broken link)

It's not strictly Indian or Pakistani, but it might have some.

Go to Hillcroft ave right by 59. There are some desi grocers in the area and they surely have asafoetida. I saw asafoetida at Central Market, too, but it was overpriced compared to the desi grocers.

Hillcroft has a BOAT LOAD of grocery stores.

Houston also has sporadic locations for it's ethnic grocery stores. You can find them nearly anywhere in Metro Houston now.

Thanks a bunch to all who replied. It looks like the stretch of Hillcroft Ave between Westpark Dr and Harwin Dr is the Little India/Pakistan I've been looking for.
