Hi folks,

I am seriously pondering a move to Houston, where I would be working at 7141 Office City Drive
Houston, TX 77087

I also would like to commence studies at the U of Houston on my off time, so would be going there as well. I would work the evening shift, so I imagine the only time I would be in rush-hour traffic would be when graduate studies started rather early.

In such a situation, where would you all consider buying a house? I would prefer to stay under 250 K, but could go as high as 300 if the rationale for doing so was adequate. I do not mind a bit of a commute, but don't wish to spend all day in a car (35 minutes or under one way would be OK)

I have a young child and wife(plan to have more as well), so no ghettos and at least decent schools.

I appreciate any information or personal experiences that anyone has to offer. Thank you for your time!

Offhand, I would say Pearland. Schools and family atmosphere good - commute OK. Our homes are generally cheaper than other large cities (in the suburbs), but our property taxes are not. For a comfort zone, try to stay under $275K.

So you are looking for a polygamous community in the Houston area?

What about Friendswood? The crime looks very low there and google maps only shows a 16 mile commute.

I haven't seen much about Friendswood from the reading I have been doing; is there someone who lives there that has thoughts to share?

Friendswood would be another good choice.

I live in Pearland, relatively close to it's border with Friendswood. There's not much difference between the two if you ignore the far west end of Pearland (Silverlake area, near 288). Traffic can be a moderate issue at the peak rush hour times, but most of the time it's fine.

I don't know what you plan to study, or whether it would be an option, but there is a new campus of UHCL on Pearland Parkway. Fairly small campus right now, but from the amount of infrastructure that it appears that they have put into place, it would appear that they don't plan to stay that small for very long.

I really like living in Pearland, and there are lots of options as far as housing goes. You can find just about everything from nice apartments to acreage homes, older neighborhoods, new developments, pretty much whatever you want. Of course, there are no midrise or highrise residential buildings that I know of, but then, it IS the 'burbs....
