he took a deferment for a year i.e. he's thinking about it. i doubt he is locked in or if he does attend it will be done mostly through correspondence

I think you missed the fact that he's teaching a class at NYU for the next two semesters. I'd be interested to know what schools he applied to and find out if UH is just a safety school, but as published, it seems that he's only made any type of decision at UH, and I'm assuming he would just apply because he had nothing else better to do...

I do agree though, that if he does matriculate, he probably would see how much he could do off campus.

For creative writing graduate school, UH is hardly a safety school. For those who happen to value US News rankings, UH is 2nd in the country. But yeah I agree they will probably make all kinds of exceptions for him as far as residency. I think I read somewhere that he took an ungodly amount of hours at USC in one semester. It was a number that wasn't humanly possible. Still glad to have him and the recognition.
