I've never been to the Houston Rodeo and I've been told by a few people that it would be a good place to take my little kids.

Can somebody share some info about the activities for kids at the Houston Rodeo.
Thanks.

Take them to the livestock show. They can pet the animals and all that stuff.

Skip the actual Rodeo since it is really for adults to sit around, talk, drink alcohol and watch bull riding.

You should however take your children to both the Livestock Show and the Rodeo Carnival to ride the rides. They will have a blast!!

I disagree the actual Rodeo can be fun for kids esp the calf scrammble and mutton busting. The calf scrammble and High Flying Awards were always a favorite of mine as a kid. But the livestock show, petting zoos and all the other family friendly activities are a must for every Houstonian!

They have a section targeted for kids..."farmer's market" - go through the process of harvesting fake vegetables, eggs, selling them, and using the money to buy a snack at the end), pig races, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, carnival rides. They also have a stage with Disney Radio people doing kid-entertainment. Bring a backpack with some basic needs (change of clothes, wipes, water). Some people would recommend you get your kids a bracelet with your cell number in the event you get separated. I usually give my kid some guidelines about what to do if she gets lost. The times we've gone we always have a good time. Weekends are busy, if you go during the week is less crowded for those outside areas.

It can be fun for kids, esp. the petting zoo area and carnival rides but be prepared parking is a nightmare and $10 a car!

Buy a half-price carnival pack from the website before you go. It will trim the amount you spend at the carnival. Welcome - Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
