Is traffic better or worse in Houston than your old city?

Came from the DC/VA/MD area...I'd probably still be there if we had traffic like Houston, so I have to say better.

This is going to be relative...Houston, as the 4th largest metro is likely to have more congestion and terrible drivers than most cities just because of population. Compare it to NY or LA and maybe it seems tame in comparison!

Grew up in Pittsburgh. Traffic there was not nearly as extreme, but it was bad in its own way. A lot of what makes traffic difficult for people to take is the road configuration. My biggest issue with Houston is that the onramps and offramps merge at almost the same point.

I've been to a lot of cities in the US, and abroad - everyone always says that their town has the WORST traffic....I don't think Houston's traffic is the worst. Yes, there's a lot of it, and i don't enjoy driving on some of the faster, more congested highways. But i really felt unsafe on some roads in Brazil and Argentina where people didn't stop or obey any laws.

I came from Milwaukee / Chicago.

All things considered, traffic seems worse here. More people in Houston drive crazy, don't use turn signals, don't check their blind spot, etc. I've heard this funny term as well: "sh#t in the road Houston". I've never seen so much random crap on the roads, beds, boxes, ladders, yard items, etc. Volume wise, traffic is a little worse here.

Traffic is far worse thjan it was for me in NY. The streets were more like survival of the fittest where only a relative few have cars and young people, old people, and poor drivers have other transportation options. In Houston, EVERYONE has to drive. Also, there's just not enough side streets to siphon people off the main highways.

I moved here from Columbus, OH, and traffic is worse here than in Ohio. But no matter!

I too moved here from the DMV ( DC, MD, VA). I heard so many horror stories about how bad Houston traffic was. DMV traffic is much worse than traffic here. All it takes is ONE accident to take place on I-95 and all traffic comes to a complete halt. I don't miss it one bit.

I just moved from Phoenix, which is larger than Houston. But the traffic was manageable there. Phx is really well planned for a big city.
