I gotta ask this question
Texans big screen - Harris county wasteful spending?

Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation OKs plan to put new HD video screen displays in Reliant Stadium | abc13.com
Quote:
Commissioners with the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation just approved a plan to build two new scoreboards here at Reliant. Each end zone will feature a screen that's 52 feet high and 277 feet wide, so there will be plenty of space for instant replays, statistics, and commercials.

The new boards are expected to cost about $16 million. Commissioners are still negotiating the details but tell us they will be paid for with county restoration funds. The Houston Texans and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will loan the county money up-front.
"The money that goes into this R&R fund comes from hotel/motel tax, rental car tax, from the ticket tax," Shafer said.

As the article says. This is not Harris County money. This is HCSCC money. It goes to a new big screen or towards convention center stuff. I like big screens Part of this is our bid to get the super bowl. This is what this money is intended for.

I see nothing with the wrong with the HOTEL and MOTEL tax going to something that promotes the tourist. Wow what a concept.

This job is almost complete, they started taking down the old backlit end zone displays months ago. This was part of the Superbowl bid.

How does it promote tourism when even people that live in Houston can't find tickets to go to the games?

Also was part of the Superbowl bid and that in itself will more than pay for this board. Here is an article form 2012.
Reliant Stadium to have widest video displays in pro sports
