How bad is the commute? Or more precisely how long is the commute.

I know traffic is bad, but time-wise what would it take?

Thanks,

Mike

That's a suicide wish going 610 and 290 without riding the HOV lane. I'd say it would take a good 60-90 minutes to get from your garage to your desk one way in traffic, depending on time of day. Plan on 2 hrs if there is a bad accident. That has to be the worst non-construction-zone commute in town right now.

If you have the money, get an easy tag for the tollway and go to Westheimer and then from Westheimer to Post Oak. Avoid the west loop. It's hell. You might surprise yourself and get the drive in 45 minutes, with the help of the tollway, depending on traffic.

You could save yourself some time by simply taking the old Hempstead Hwy that runs parallel alongside of 290. It will be expanded into a tollway in a few years, but it is another option for you.

Otherwise you're looking at about roughly a one-hour commute.

Thanks for everyone's input. It looks like I'll be moving down to Houston pretty quick from Canada. The home hunt begins.

With no construction, no wrecks, you're looking at an easy commute time of 1 hr plus each way on 290 from Huffmeister (Cypress Area). If you're on an 8 to 5 schedule, plan for much longer commute times.

It's a buyers market right now. Happy Home Hunting!

Thanks for everyone's input. Looks like I'm heading down in November, with plans of purchasing in January or so.
