Moving to Houston this summer. My office is on Memorial Dr. near Shepherd Dr. What would I be looking at for normal week-day commute times from central locations in each suburb (i.e., no wrecks and leaving early)?

Thanks,

MM

That's a tough one, but I'd guess 1 hour from kingwood, an hour from spring (1:15 from woodlands), 45 min from Katy (non cinco), 1 hour from cinco, 1 hour from Sugarland, 45 min from pearland, 1:15 from friendswood/clear lake. Best guesses I've got give or take 15 min.

Thanks LIT. Should have said I was really only looking at commute times from Cinco and The Woodlands.

Those are the worst 2 places to live when commuting to just about anywhere inner loop. I would suggest looking a Sugarland or Meyerland Willowbend Westbury Maplewood all close to together on the south west side just outside the loop

Ugh, just the thought of those drives. Cinco will be slightly easier than The Woodlands, basically because there are so many alternate routes west. Woodlands has two, sorta. Getting into Cinco will be about 45 minutes on a "non-event day." Getting to The Woodlands EXIT will be 50-60 minutes on a "non-event day." Then you have to get into the neighborhoods, which is another traffic jam on it's own.

Best area to live on a modest budget for that location is the Garden Oaks area, and go to a catholic private nearby.
Getting around this town is getting increasingly difficult. Just to get to Bellaire/Maplewood areas can take over 30 minutes on a good day...and that's right at the loop. Sugarland would be easily 45 minutes as well, to Shepard and Memorial.

As to Katy, I would pick Green Trails over Cinco now. That area is jumping in price every year. It's closer in, and an easier commute.

I hadn't considered Sugarland, but it doesn't seem any closer than Cinco when heading to Memorial/Shepherd. I used to dred 59, but maybe things have changed. Meyerland is too urban and I don't recognize the others.

Meyerland is to urban are you crazy it is not like 5th or 3rd wards or even Hiram Clarke I guess you want to be out as far as possible to get away from crime. Meyerland Willowbend Westbury & Maplewood has low crime I live in this area I know

DJ, I didn't mean that Meyerland was dangerous, just too urban for my wife. My UofH roomate and bud moved from Meyerland to Denver about three months ago. His house sold in a day and went for at or above asking price. By all accounts its a nice place to live, just not for us.
