I just want to remind everyone that hot season is already there, and the interior of your car becomes an oven during the summer months. Please don't leave your kids or animals in the car, even if you think your "errand" will take only few minutes.

Also do not keep your animals in the garage ( yeah, some people do )

And that leads to a question: should we report people who leave kids or pets unattended in a vehicle during hot days? If yes - who should we call?

I would. No parent or pet owner should be leaving their kids or pets in a vehicle under the Houston heat in the first place. And then there are the cases where a change in routine has a parent forgetting they have a baby in the back seat! You could save a life either way.

Are there any laws on the books about this - when it comes to leaving children unattended in vehicles? I've never looked into it.

I once parked next to a car with an infant and a toddler. My friend went into the store to get the manager and call out for the parent. The dad finally came and started yelling at the toddler. Today, I'd call 911.

I had friends that made this mistake a very long time ago. They left their dog in the car without the AC running. The dog died in about 10 minutes with the summer heat.

I know we are gettting dumber as a nation, but are really to the point that you have to tell people not to leave their kids in the car? Which goes back to my theory that people should have to get a license to have children.

Well, we do live in a country where parents can't even feed their own kids anymore. The government has to do that 2 or 3 times a day. It's not a surprise that these same types aren't intelligent enough to know that you can't leave a kid or dog in a car during a Houston summer. That's advanced parenting for people who haven't yet mastered child feedings.

A couple of years ago, a baby died in the car of a doctor here in Houston. It's not just rednecks.

I don't think I've ever seen a child left in a hot car, but it happens. The chart below shows how often these types of deaths occur each year. Each death is 100% preventable & very hard to wrap your head around.

Now dogs in hot cars, sadly, I see that too often. Some people seem to think cracking the windows is fine. I disagree.

If I'm wearing a fur coat in a car that gets to 150 degrees within a few minutes, with just a tiny 2 inch 95 degree breeze barely circulating through the car, I'm suffering.
