The zoo is so big that it's never too crowded to enjoy... once you get inside. Parking can fill up fast, so if you're going I'd recommend getting there right when they open. If you wait even an hour longer, you'll likely spend 20 minutes to get parking (especially with this nice weather).

Your 3 year old should love it. Lots of animals, great carousel, petting zoo, playground, etc. I'd either bring your own stroller or plan on renting one there for a few bucks -- lots of walking.

The zoo is absolutely fantastic! Check to see but I think there's free entrance every tuesday? Anyway, it's worth the price regardless.

It's an amazing zoo, its been rated as one of the top 10 best in the country (from various sources, although not every) and its an amazing experience. They recently expanded their zoo to more, I say go for it. I've always loved the zoo, I love animals in general.

Your 3 yr old will love the zoo. I have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old and once the weather warms up, we are there about once a month. The new African Forest is amazing and really interactive. The children's area is a lot of fun with the animal carousel, playground, and petting zoo. Even though you will see a lot of people entering, the zoo spreads them out pretty well. The only exhibit that is usually crowded is the Lions. Have fun.

It's a great zoo and with good weather, yes it will be crowded. We went last weekend and the worst part will be looking for a parking spot. If possible, go right when they open....

We took our 3 yr old two weekends ago, we went around 11 ish or so and there was no crowd, parking is always bad because the people who park there are not only zoo visitors but also visitors to the park and to the train etc.

We had a good time and the new African forest was nice!

Not sure if this will help...but I found a fantastic app for the Houston zoo (and yes it is free) and it basically tells you everything you need to know about the zoo. Upcoming events, daily events, specials, best times to see the animals and of course a map of the zoo. Of course the app is called "Houston Zoo"
