Hello,

Our water bill has been about twice as much as usual. When I checked the meter, I found the meter box filled with water.

What's the best course of action to take?

Thanks,
Steve

Call the City (or whoever services your water). Looks like there may be a leak. You can also contest the bill given the circumstances, and the credit will be applied to your future bill.

Look at the bill first and understand why is higher. More water consumption than last few bills? Higher prices? New charges you didn't have before? Watch for the sewage charges as well. Water in this town is almost as expensive as Starbucks, absolutely crazy.

As for the meter box being full of water is normal but it could be a leak as well. Those boxes are not sealed or anything like that and if there is water in the ground after rain they will have water too

Last talk to your neighbors and see if they have same high bill issues.

Hello,

I had forgotten about this post.

Just wanted to let everyone know what happened.

The leak was on my side. The water shutoff valve located right next to the water meter was leaking at the thread.

I found someone on craigslists and I think he fixed it for around $150 (parts and labor).

I believe someone probably ran over the meter box and that caused the meter box to press down on the valve.

Steven
