I vote for Magnolias and tall well kept Palm Trees for Houston.

They even look good close to each other...Will adding palm trees in around the Houston metro make it more beautiful and pretty looking?-trees.jpg

That particular palm tree in your yard is called a Canary Island Date Palm (not a True Date) & it is very beautiful!

Its the same ones they have on Post Oak in Uptown next to those chrome arches.

Thank you I had no idea what kind it was. It is a monster. Sadly I have to have a metal tube placed on it to keep the coons from nesting up there. This is the time of year they do that. The tube keeps them from climbing up it. Once it is on I will post a photo of it.

Houston should stock up on these! It hardly rains here and it stays so happy and strong despite the lack of rain.

It should have green seeds on it now that eventually turn orange & drop to the ground when ripe.

My friend down in Galveston has one the same size in their front yard & its dropping seeds like crazy right now. I just collected several hundred to try & germinate.

Honestly I have lived in this house for 3 years and have never seen seeds. Maybe the coons, squirrels, and ravens gobble them up??? Or maybe mine is a male.

I just googled what the seeds look like and I have never seen them on my tree.

If yours germinates strategically plant them all over Houston

And if mine ever drops seeds I will send them to my mom in Houston!

Not all palms produce seeds. Yours is probably the male.

I have a suggestion. Let's try to grow what is native to our area. There are plenty of beautiful things that are indigenous to here.
