We are looking at homes in Katy, Fulshear, Richmond. Our daughter will be commuting from home to the Univ. of St. Thomas for a semester or two. Which would be the best and worst commute for her: I-10, 59, Westpark Tollway? Or all about the same.

Yes, but are any worse than others? Which would you drive if you had to?

I-10 is my choice - more lanes plus you can jump in the Ez-pass lanes if it is too clogged or carpool

Westpark is 2 lanes and dumps right into the mess of 610/59 area. I have paid to sit in traffic on the Westpark - might as well do it for free on I-10

I don't have a lot of experience commuting in on 59 but more lanes would be better than Westpark

I am in Grand Lakes right by Mason and Fry

It really depends on what time of day she will be going into and out of town. If she is commuting during rush hour it's best to take I-10 tollway. If it's during non peak hours she can take the I-10 mainlanes with ease. Westpark tollway is a waste of money because it's just as clogged as 59 during peak hours. 59 is fine during non peak hours but not as free flowing as I-10 during non peak hours.

It depends really on the time of the commute. The problem with IH10 during rush hour is she still has to take the small streets from IH10 to St Thomas whereas with 59 or Westpark/59, it's a short distance once you exit the freeway. If it's non rush hour commute, then all 3 are fine but westpark has a toll. But if we're talking a semester or two only, why would you make your home purchase decision based on such a short term situation?

Thanks everyone!

Houstonfan....we're not basing our home purchase solely on our daughters commute - also basing it off of my husbands commute to "park ten" area near hwy 6 & I-10.
