Does anyone know of a way to open coconuts like split them in half that doesn't hurt. The only way I know of to open them is to set them on something solid and hit it with my fist. It really hurts.

because they sell coconuts and everyone else probably opens them the way I do with their hand. If someone has an easier way it would increase coconut sales and reduce the number of hand injuries.

When I took a bike tour of Key West - my flaky tour guide stopped - stole a neighbors coconut and hacked it to death with a machete so we could each have some................ weird tour

A machete works like a charm. But hey, I have a quick joke here, which your post for some reason reminded me of.
This farmer is with his horse standing by a pond in arid west Texas, trying to get the horse to drink, but he just won't comply. So this other cowboy comes ambling along and notices the problem and tells the horse owner that he knows a way to make the horse drink. He proceeds to grab two large rocks and takes one in each hand and smacks them together on either side of the horse's balls. The shock and pain cause the horse, with his head down near the water, to take in a huge gulp of water.
The horse owner says, "Gee, thanks pardner, much obliged. But, uh, doesn't that sorta hurt?"
"Naw," the cowboy replies. "Not if you make sure not to get your fingers in the way."
