Ok. So I know a lot of folks have a lot of negative things about my decision but its made and i am moving. Currently I live in a small town an hour north of Dallas, Tx. I have never lived in a city but i am ready for a big change. I'll be going to /houston in order to pursue my dream of being a cosmetologist. I'm looking for advice for good to places to live in the city as well as good schooling options. I will be moving on my owm and have yet to find a job. Please be as nonjudgmental as possible. Any form of advice is appreciated!

Probably no problem to move in without a job, if you bring $$$ to survive, while looking for job...
Otherwise find work first.
How you expect us to help you without knowing your budget and expenses?

Good luck and wish you the best. I moved here in 1997 when I was 24. I grew up in a small town about an hour northwest of Fort Worth so I can somewhat relate. Houston is large. Find one of the suburbs with its own identity that is well developed and find what you need from there. Woodlands area, Katy, Kingwood, sugarland, Pearland, friends wood, etc are all good options. There will be trade school options in most of those cities/suburbs and you can continue your education there. Inside Houston proper is expensive unless you live in a rougher area. Maybe once you are established, you can move more inside Houston proper depending if you think it's for you. Again, best of luck.

I'd imagine there is a website by the licensing board of accredited schools in the Houston area. I'd get that list and then do some Google searches on them to determine which one would be best for you. Then I'd apply. Once you are accepted and know the area it's in, come back here with the area and budget for assistance on places to live. I honestly don't think this is the best place to get recommendations on a cosmetology school, but I guess you never know.

Anyways, good luck to you.

Why not Dallas instead since you're just 1 hr away from Dallas. Once you gain experience and have save enough then you can move to other big cities. It looks like the demand for cosmetologists in Dallas is just the same in Houston. Or I'm wrong about cosmetologists demand.

Looking over this thread, this ^^ makes a lot of sense. Moving an hour away is easier & safer--you might find you don't like the big city at all. And it is just not a good idea to relocate, especially to an unfamiliar place, without already having a job or viable trade. Think it through. Good luck!

I don't blame you for wanting to move away. the need to find something else, etc..

If I was one of your family, I'd say move to Dallas. (which is still my best opinion) ,
but Houston seems like it could be a fun place. I've been there.

Go out and find what you're looking for. And if it doesn't work out,
you know Dallas is your home.
