I am in Stafford, TX and I am a new home owner so I don't know much about pipe freezes or problems

People at work told me I need to buy something from the store to cover the pipes otherwise it freezes and damages the pipe and the house

So how to solve this problem?

Cover the exterior faucets with covers. Standard Faucet Cover-1950 at The Home Depot

Wrap your water line into the house and you should be good. Armacell Tubolit 3/4 in. x 6 ft. Polyethylene Self-Seal Pipe Wrap Insulation-OES07838 at The Home Depot

Hope that helps.

Go to Lowes and ask for outdoor pipe insulation. You won't have to worry about it tonight. Only when there is a hard freeze of 28 degrees or less for more than 4 hours.

Even then, open the tap on a bathtub so that there's a tiny trickle, and run it overnight. The water is less likely to freeze when it's moving. We need to be below freezing for a significant period before worrying about pipes.

We're not even getting to freezing yet.

Thanks all

I guess I will head to lowes or depot and buy this thing just to be on the safe side

I know it is not gonna freeze tonight but it is better to take precaution before something happens

If you have a sprinkler, don't forget about protecting the backflow preventer plumbing, or turn the water to the system off and drain it, if it is getting down to a hard freeze. I throw an old quilt over mine and never had a problem. Luckily most new homes I've seen have the water inlet pipes all underground and the water pipes are not exposed, so all you have are the faucets to cover.

I've only had one frozen/burst pipe and that was back in 1989? when we had the single digit temps and it was below freezing for several days straight. It was an attic pipe, at the end of the plumbing in the far NW corner of the house. I should have turned on the tub faucet, but didn't think about it freezing since it had blown in insulation. But it was apparently not enough in that spot!
