First time home buyer here. Does anyone have a name of a reliable and reputable mortgage broker or lender to recommend in the Houston area? Thanks.

I want to note here that none of these are the major banks, which is good. Stay away from Chase, BofA and Wells Fargo.

That may be true, but on my last 2 mortgages with an independent broker, the loan was sold off to another bank not long afterward (BoA the first time)

Ours also was sold to a major bank after using a local lender.

What would be reasons to avoid big banks?

Thanks for all the info! I started this thread mainly because I naively went to Wells Fargo to get a prequalification letter and they really did not help us out in anyway and we have lost out on some possible homes. The lady never returned our calls.
