Hopefully, people will stop asking where they can find rent for $600 a month. Now, Houston's average one-bedroom rent is $910 and two-bedrooms is $1,040 as of November 2014. Spike in Houston rents outpaces national average - Prime Property

That's not bad. I just heard from a visiting friend that a room in the oil rig area of North Dakota is $1600.

ETA: I think that's a normal price for a big city.

My guess is that people that work in the oil rig area of North Dakota make more than $50,000/year

We're (still) a bargain.

There are places with cheap rent, people just expect granite counter top, washer/dryers, pool, and club houses. I know people that live on the cheap, but yes, it's not the prettiest nor the swankiest places in town.

This. Plus, they always want the best school districts and a short commute to work (which always centered in an expensive area).

Houston isn't worth the price of admission these days. That's way too much money to pay to live anywhere in Texas.
