I am a single male considering this metropolitan area. I've been before several times and like it and I'm a California native. What are some good suburbs with detached newer housing that you recommend. I don't mind a longer commute as long as the traffic is moving...LOL.

I've heard The Woodlands/Kingwood are nice and then I've heard to go out West toward Katy. Are there single homeowners there so I won't feel out of place? What about toward the East and toward the South from the downtown core?

Thanks in advance. Robert.

I suggest Katy or Sugarland. Good luck in your search!

What does a single guy need a house in the burbs all to himself for?

Dude, rent an apartment in the city, find a woman and then go about house buying. Maybe then you won't be on your own trying to pay the bills, taxes etc.

If I were single, I'd be living in Midtown, the Heights, or in any other nicer area inside the 610 loop.

IMO, there is little to no difference in the type of person who moves outside the beltway, and that person is generally not young, single and childless. So, in that respect, all suburban neighborhoods are about the same: They attract families and older single/divorced people.

So unless you are desperate for a new house, stick to the city for a few years!

Don't do an xburb as a single. Its brutal, boring and lonely.
Urban-Suburban would be better if you really want a house.

Different strokes for different folks guys. If he's already living in a house, I say 99% chance he'll never go back to apartments again. Space all to yourself w/o hearing someone else's headboard rhythmically beating your wall at 1am is a good thing! I personally didn't like the inner loop (TMC), but that's just me. Being a lifelong native means the drive (in a smooth riding car w/ some toys) is a part of life here and really ain't ****.

To answer the OP - Clear Lake (77058,77059,77062), for example, has a few single, 30+ living in decent homes. They don't need it all to themselves, but have the cash flow, enjoy space - so why not? Anyway, there are a good amount of original nightlife establishments and eateries, as well as other things to do around here to keep someone age 25+ entertained. A large, senior-level U of H branch (juniors through post-grad) is just down the street so there is a sizeable 20-something crowd. This is a diverse, professional suburb, still Houston city limit, 20-25 miles SE of downtown, and feels about 40% urban / 60% suburban. If I weren't married I'd definitely still be living here, and I'm a hair shy of 30. Maybe you should look here, too?

If you like country feeling suburbs, the Clear Lake area has Friendswood and League City. A short 5-15 min drive from what I mentioned above.

Just because someone is single doesn't mean he or she won't enjoy the burbs - it all depends on personality. Some are happier in a residential area while others want to be in the thick of things near all the restaurants, clubs and singles. Just depends on what your personality is.
