Hi all. I got a speeding ticket earlier last month on march 3rd. So on march 25th I apply for the driving safety course (DSC) by mail. I made sure I met all of the eligibility criteria and mailed the DSC application with all the required documents and money order for the mandatory DSC $114.10 fee. It has been 3weeks and I still have not gotten a letter from the court, acknowledging that they have received/approved my request and that I have X number of days to take the course. Has anyone requested the DSC by mail? if so am I supposed to wait until after my court date for a response? or shouldn't I have gotten a response long ago?

It's been several years, so many of the specific details elude me. That being said, I do recall it taking forever to get a response and when I finally did, they gave me about 6 months to complete it.

When you sent your info to them, was it directed to a specific clerk or do you have any other contact person with the court?

Why don't you call and ask them about the status of your request?
You may dial 713.837.0311 to speak to a One Call Solution Center representative by phone to submit your DSC/MOTC information. You will need access to a computer and email to complete this process.

BTW:
"IF YOUR DSC/MOTC REQUEST IS POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE YOUR COURT DATE,
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO APPEAR IN COURT."

Call 311. Have your case # ready and they will look it up and give you your status. Be advised that the Municipal Courts has just switched to a new processing system so there may be some delays.

Good luck

I sent it directly to the courts, not to anyone specific. On my Arraignment reminder notice it says "all mail should be addressed to: City of Houston Municipal Courts P.O. Box 4996, Houston, Texas 77210-4996" so that's where I sent it.

Yeah, it looks like that is what I am going to have to do. I was hoping to avoid calling and waiting a long time on the phone, but It looks like I have no choice, with my court date being just around the corner.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies.

Very similar experience. Sent DSC application with ticket via certified mail on March 24th. Today the $114 check just posted via online banking. Apparently the process is just as efficient and quick as one might guess sending mail to a generic address at a city government to be processed.

You did send it via Certified Mail, yes? If so, and they give you any grief, you will have something to show they received it.

You should get a response prior to your court date.

Indeed.

No, I did not, unfortunately. I sent it with a single forever stamp. I should have added some form of tracking, that way I have proof that I sent it if they claim they didn't get anything.

I hope so. I am waiting until the last couple of days before my court date. If nothing arrives in the mail by then I will have to call them and ask what's the hold up.

Default Well...

My wife once missed her court date, never mind asking to take DSC. She went to the court immediately, which was a day, or two after the court date. She had to speak to the judge, a warrant was issued, but not put into effect. The judge was understanding, and allowed her to request the DSC.

Not the same situation as yours, but it just goes to show that judges still have common sense, and compassion. I'd call, I think the court is open on the weekends too, at least Saturday.
