I've heard a few people say, but have never been able to verify, that there maybe an international airport coming to the west end of Houston: Sealy / Brookshire?

I live in Cinco Ranch and hate driving to IAH or HOU (not an internaional airport).

Anyone have info?

Thanks in advance,
V

Living in sugar land, I would be so happy if this is true.

I've heard that talk for years too. If there is ever a Westside Airport I doubt it will be international. Remember to be international you have to have customs and immigration capabilities and the Federal government does'nt just hand those agents out like candy. It was hard enough to get HOU designated international remember?

there was a push a few years back, but I don't see it. Bush is in full blown expansion mode, so is Hobby. I doubt the city/county is going to earmark funds for a third airport...nor do we need one. Plus I think the west side airport was basically killed due to the goose migration issue and loss of habitat.

If there is another airport built it will serve South central Texas and be midway between San Antonio& Houston & the valley.

I work in the airline industry in the Houston market and I can tell you, for certain, its 20 plus years away if it happens at all.

I haven't heard anyone talk about it in years. Houston owns property between Katy and Brookshire. The bird people started suing. But the rice fields and birds are leaving that area. Houston eventually decided it just wasn't needed at this point in time.

Spend the money to create a new airport and swallow all the associated costs in annual maintenance and fees? Or use the money to maintain the 2 world-class airports already in town?

There already is an airport in Sugar Land. Any chance of expanding it? I don't see this becoming a Hobby, but maybe something smaller with flights to local destinations and hubs.

It may be easier for them to work on getting commercial service back to Sugar Land Airport, wouldn't it?
