Hey guys, my 12 month contract with Reliant is coming to an end and I was looking at rates on Power To Choose web site. Came across this https://signup.discountpowertx.com/P...151-126690.pdf

They are offering a $65 "bill credit" when usage goes above 1000kWh. So their average cost for 1000kWh is just 4.4c/KwH.
This is the first time I've ever heard of anything like that. Is this a scam? Have any of you have any experience with Discount Power or something similar?

Note: My average use during the summer is 1000kWh+ and on non summer months its about 500-900kWh.

You may get a bill credit of $65 if you exceed 999 kWh but you will still pay distribution charges on the 'total' amount used. Also you will pay a jacked up rate for anything under that and then I am sure there is a usage fee if you don't go over the 999.. Something to do more research on for sure.

I was duped by a "Reliant" company called "Everything Energy". My bill was 80 something and I paid 40+ dollars as "delivery charge". I cancelled the very month I realized they did this.

isn't the delivery charge something everyone pays to get their electricity actually delivered from Centerpoint? It may have just been broken out on the bill whereas before, it was embedded in the higher rate.

Yes. Most people don't realize that when it's not listed as a separate line on the bill it's in the 'rate' they're paying.

Everything Energy was charging me 9.95 before Reliant bought them (which is what I pay now with American Light & Power).

The month reliant bought them, my delivery charges became variable i.e. 50% for my bill LOL. I kicked them out the very first month. I don't want my electric bill to fund their arena upgrades

You didn't understand your previous rate as it had to be broken down differently but still contained the same delivery charge

Your delivery charge is always variable. It depends on what your usage is. There is not flat rate delivery charge (that I am aware of) on the market.

This is what the EFL says,

"Average Price per kWh: 500kWh-10.9c/kWh 1000kWh-4.4c/kWh 2000kWh-7.7/kWh

The price above includes the following:
a)Fixed Energy Charge Per kWh: 10.9c (includes TDSP Deliver Charges)
b)TDSP Automatic Meter Service charge of $0"

Seems the distribution charge is already included in the 10.9/4.4 c right? Or am I missing something here?
