Hoping I won't be as disappointed as I was in San Antonio.

When I first visit a new city I'd like to get a quick overview of what they have to offer.

One of the first places I go is to one of the malls. Malls usually have a diverse population and give you a feel about what the city has to offer. Of course I'll be stopping by The Galleria.

Does Houston have any local magazines? Maybe one that has what's going on in the community?

Brace yourself: San Antonio is one of Texas' top tourist locales. For my money, the most notable tourist attractions in Houston are the Space Center
and the Menil museum (and nearby Rothko Chapel). Houston has little else that is both unique and especially noteworthy.

Houston does, however, have lots of great restaurants and shopping. And the Museum Area (near Rice University) is quite attractive, with good museums nearby.

This will be a possible job relocation visit so while I'm interested in the touristy things I'm really interested in spending the next 5+ years there.

First place you visit in a new city is the mall. How interesting. But your reasoning.......Im still thinking about that one.

How can the stores in a mall or the people who walk them give you an indication of what a city is like?
