Why are Harris county taxpayers paying for Gosling expansion that only benefits Montgomery county?
https://communityimpact.com/houston/...on-updates-69/

1. Gosling Road segments 2, 3
Segments 2 and 3 of the Gosling Road widening project, from Mossy Oaks Road to West Rayford Road and from West Rayford Road to Creekside Forest Drive—respectively—are in the study phase. Engineering will determine the alignment and whether the road will be expanded to four or five lanes. The timeline of the project is dependent on the passage of Harris County’s bond referendum on Nov. 3.

Timeline: TBD
Cost: $13 million (Segment 2), $6.5 million (Segment 3)
Funding sources: Harris County Precinct 4

3. Gosling Road Segment 1 widening
The final design has been completed on the first segment of the Gosling Road expansion between Spring Stuebner and Mossy Oaks roads. Harris County sent the project for bidding Aug. 28.
Right of way clearing and utility relocation have begun. The bidding and awarding of the contract will take 90-120 days to complete. The project will widen the roadway from two lanes to a five-lane pavement roadway between Spring Stuebner Road and the Grand Parkway and to four lanes between the Grand Parkway and Mossy Oaks Road.

Timeline: early 2016-TBD
Cost: $10 million
Funding sources: Harris County Precinct 4

4. Gosling Road bridge addition
A joint partnership between The Woodlands Road Utility District and Harris and Montgomery counties, the three transportation entities plan to add a second bridge to Gosling Road over Spring Creek, expanding the road over the creek from two to four lanes. The project is in the study phase and funding for Harris County’s portion of the project is dependent on the passage of the county’s bond referendum on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Timeline: TBD
Cost: $8.5 million
Funding sources: The Woodlands RUD, Harris and Montgomery counties

Montgomery County leaders spar over Woodlands Parkway extension - again

"The problem with the extension is it introduces even more traffic into our community," said Laura Fillault, who was elected to The Woodlands Township board last fall after actively opposing the project. "I'm convinced that it would be the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of taking away any sort of hometown feel we have left."

Taht part of Gosling is in Harris County, so Harris County gets to pay. It will benefit lots of folks who live in Harris County, but shop, work, etc in The Woodlands.

If you have to ask this, I don't know what to tell you. Gosling Road south of Spring Creek is a powder keg of development about to blow. The expansion will ease the flow of traffic between Woodlands Parkway and the Grand Parkway. There are tens of thousands of Harris County folks who use the Grand Parkway and Gosling because they work in Montgomery County.

The Woodlands Parkway extension will cut down natural forest, line the pockets of greedy developers and burden the current residents of Montgomery County. You're damn right I don't want the extension to happen.

This thread is a stupid straw-man argument if there ever was one. I guess YOU didn't vote for the road bond referendum, so YOU don't like it.

Guess what? It doesn't work that way.

Since they spent $1B+ to build the Grand Parkway, it makes sense to be able to access it. The Woodlands is an employment center, with as much traffic going in as out.

Well, the obvious answer to your question is that it is in Harris County. However, you bring up a good point. If The Woodlands residents are against The Woodlands Parkway extension, why are they for the Gosling road expansion?

I guess the answer to your question is that one is an expansion and the other one is an extension. An expansion prepares a road for more cars, an extension gives a road more cars.

Gosling road helps The Woodlands have easy access to the Grand Parkway (paid for by Harris County taxpayers)
The Woodlands Parkway extension would give Magnolia easy access to I-45

I don't see any reason for Harris County to paid for that expansion when there's 1000s of other places in the county that should be fixed.

Well, I agree with you. I was actually for The Woodlands parkway extension.

However, Harris County residents will use Gosling road. Maybe you should bring the issue up at a commissioners court meeting. It has been done before that counties help pay for a project in a nearby county, because it is understood that the project will help both counties.

Have you seen the traffic coming into The Woodlands in the morning? It's backed up FAR more than the traffic leaving. Sorry you wanted the WPX. And I don't get what Laura's quote has to do with Gosling at all.

Commissioners court just approved funding for the 249 Toll road that overlaps into MoCo. Did you miss that story??

So is the Woodlands Parkway extension officially dead at this point?

Pretty much, unless they find a way to build it without bonds that require an election to approve. The awesome folks in the Woodlands don't want those nasty folks from Tomball to have an easy way to get to The Woodlands and maybe make traffic worse than it already is.
