Looks like Metro is thinking about doing going up Houston Ave and down Washington with an extension of the Green/Purple lines westward using some of the funding they won't have to spend on dual Hobby lines. Thoughts? If you're going to do rail, hard pressed to find a more appropriate corridor imo.

I am opposed to this. Rail screws up traffic on every street it touches, and the cost is outrageous. METRO is not capable of managing a project properly.

Expanding to the Washington Ave Corridor is a fantastic idea. Density in this area is happening quickly. This area would explode with rail. Especially since HEB is scheduled to open in later this year.

Its needed to connect to the Post Oak busway, and, if it does finally get constructed, the HSR between Houston and Dallas.

That's not The Heights but it is a great idea to extend the rail to Northwest Mall for the HSR to Dallas. Would also be good to take rail to The Galleria.

This would be great but they also need to get the other more lucrative East-West line going which would be the University Line. That line could potentially have the highest ridership of all lines.

Yep, my bad, you're right. I have a bad habit of lumping in Rice Military with the Heights, the Washington corridor specifically.

But yes, if they decide to do this, extending to the HSR station is a no-brainer. This is actually one of the few corridors where a streetcar-like design (as the current rail is) makes sense. Would be nice to see it transition to more of a commuter rail-style system outside of the loop and go further west, but that's a pipe dream.
