Well your wish is coming true. The Sears automotive is demolished to make way for an 11 story combo garage building with retail on the first floor. As part of the innovation district.

How ... innovative! And first floor retail. The old Swamplot community would be so proud.

I would have loved the old Sears building get restored and retain its art deco characteristics, but it looks like a cool development.

Passed by earlier, I saw a bunch of cars in the parking lot and work being done. At the former Fiesta building.

Renderings for the building finally out! This will look sweet across from the Ion.

Projected opening date is June 5, aka World Environmental Day. Good look on the start of the innovation district.

Excellent, looks like they're incorporating lots of greenery (hopefully sustainable intentions).

The Wheeler Avenue (the side seen along the freeway) side looks so darn ugly! The Space Age cladding was installed in time for the Southwest Freeway opening.

Here's an article detailing why:

Greentown Labs and the old Fiesta building is coming along

The Ion building also looks near complete. They’re planing a park on the back side of the building this area is really taking shape. Rice’s plans for this district will do wonders to connect Midtown and the Museum District

They also closed Shipley Donuts there. That was the closest to me

I believe the Ion is up and running, only virtual, due to the pandemic. They should have their official grand opening soon.
