Regardless of insurance, I’m not sure I understand LP’s point. That there’s always a chance for last a worst case scenario situation to hit your home? Yes. Some homes in Deer Park and Pasadena saw that a few days ago. That you can set yourself up to lower the probability as much as possible regardless is also true.

Yes, that's my point. Losing your stuff and the process of re-habiting your primary home is pretty traumatic for many, and a giant hassle at the very mininum, even if a significant portion of the cost is covered by insurance. So, why would anyone want to live somewhere where the chance of that is relatively higher?

It's similar to something I say regarding people thinking of having a beach or bay house in Texas (or many places, honestly): you really have to be at peace with the elevated risk that it could suffer major damage or be destroyed.
