I've never thought of Houston as uglier than L.A.

I agree with others who have said both cities are like a patchwork - you have good areas, bad areas, gorgeous areas, ugly areas, so-so areas, etc.

That being said, I've always thought the "bad" areas of L.A. were worse than the "bad" areas of Houston. And you can sure live a better lifestyle in Houston for the same money than in L.A.

Default Air Quality

Well the one thing I was going to warn you about was air quality but LA and Houston both are very bad.

My thoughts are that on all points that have been mentioned, LA is the worse city except for the weather.
It does look a bit like LA -- from the downtown pics I saw but I have always disliked downtown LA, it's in fact the ugliest downtown I've been to and I've been to plenty downtowns.

Thank you everyone for your feedback I think I'm good now and can move on to another topic. Cheers!!

Born and raised in L.A and moved my family to Katy 3 years ago (early 30's w/ kids). We love it here. IMO Houston is a slower pace than Cali which is a plus, and the people are nicer here as well. I no longer feel I'm running a rat race trying to afford a tiny overpriced 1000 sqft. house. The scenery and weather is obviously different, but after sweating through a hot and humid summer, we got adjusted, and even embraced it.

The only differences we see with the cost of living is the home prices and gas. Everything else is somewhat the same. You may or may not get use to the bugs, but there not as big and bad as you think. That's what pest control is for..

We now view Cali as a wonder place to visit, but can't imagine ever moving back. You'll love it here. And if you don't, you can always head back.

Pretty interesting! I like L.A. quite a bit, so the idea of a much cheaper version of L.A. is appealing.

The point was - so what that the Bush family lives here - it's a state. People like him, people don't like him. The odds of you running into any of them are virtually nil.

and to worldly man "It doesn't prove anything. Lots of Texans, such as myself and others, royally HATE the Bushes, they who have hidden historical connections with the Nazis."

Not sure that means much of anything -- sounds a bit far-fetched but who knows, I would guess anyone could find some awful person with awful ties in their family trees if they go back far enough - doesn't mean that because of some obscure relative's ties that you are guilty of their same trespasses.

I've only visited LA but I think that's pretty true from what I saw. There is a lot more grit/trash & graffitti all over LA. There is also an unbelievable # of people stepping on each others toes in LA vs Houston. Just get down at a gas station in a rough area and there are dozens of people in every direction, which can be uncomfortable if you're used to our space.
