I'm sure it will be a higher end store, akin to the Sienna market, given the location and demographics. It will be a stone's throw from the new ballpark and Imperial Development project, not to mention our award-winning regional airport.

H.E.B. has been submitting all sorts of plans and permits to COSL so if all goes well, there should be a new H.E.B. in the area. Conversations with the developer has it estimated that the store will take about 6 months to build after construction starts, so we may be looking at a new store by the start of 2012.

Sounds GREAT... no more having to drive way out to the cramped HEB at River Park!

There's already a big Whole Foods in Sugar Land.
Plus, HEB carries a lot of Central Market brand products.
Before you start talking about poor suburbs, you might want to check some stats on median income and educational levels for different parts of the metro.

The burbs will never beat inner loop/memorial on income, education levels and home values. The reason people live out there is because they cant afford to live in town.

I didn't say anything about Memorial, River Oaks, West U... etc. I'm not a dummy. But these desirable places don't make up the majority of Houston proper. Truth is I'm really getting tired of all the poo-poo on the suburbs attitudes on these boards... you're obviously unfamiliar with the recent posting history of the poster I was replying to, else I think you'd get it.

HEB may carry central market brand products, but the quality of everything else will never match up to it. Produce, exotic hard to find items, chef prepared section, will always be better at central market.

Like I said before, be happy with your HEB plus in your poor suburb.

I'm not sure how you arrived at this conclusion but I think you need to rethink. Certainly there are some who live outside the loop because they can't afford the inner-loop housing but many do for a host of other reasons. Outside the loop you get a lot more house for your dollar and often the homes are newer. Putting aside the issue of private schools, the school districts outside the loop are frequently far better academically. Some choose to live "out" because that's where their jobs are and proximity in Houston's traffic is a biggie. In many suburban areas there are many more family-friendly activities and families with young children seek out communities that replicate their own dynamics. Areas such as Katy, Sugar Land and First Colony are loaded with younger families with children in the public schools. Conversely, now that my child is long-since out of the house and I am by myself now, I would love to live inside the loop where the acitivites and population more closely replicate my situation. Additionally, I work downtown and it would sure be a better commute for me to live in the Heights rather than in far west Houston.
