My wife and I will be relocating to Houston in Jan, 2010 and I was hoping some one could reconmend a neighborhood that would offer lots of resteraunts in walking distance. We are both in our mid 30s, no children and she will be working at 1000 louisiana (downtown) Our rental budget will be around 2000 a month. Hopefully we can find a erea with lots of cafes and wine bars were we could walk to......Thanks for the help P.S. Our 1st month we will be in corparate housing in midtown

a. "Pedestrian Friendly" is a foreign concept in Houston. Houstonians will drive next door to borrow a cup of sugar.

b. At best you will be in walking distance to a wine bar and a restaurant or two.

Midtown would be a good start. Some of the properties in Memorial Heights maybe. But come July & August the bloom is off the rose when it comes to walking very much.

Not really, it doesn't have the amenities yet. At some point I think maybe it will, but as of now, no.

I would say Rice Military near, Washington St. That's the area that seems to have all the spots right now.

Midtown where I live around W.Gray. She can walk to work 6 months of the year and there are numerous bars (at least 6 in walking distance near me)in the area.

It's where I live and I rarely venture more than five blocks for any sort of entertainment. Buslines lead right into downtown as well. The only time I need a car is to get around the weather or for grocery shopping.
