My husband and I are relocating from North Georgia to Houston within the next 3 months. My husband's company is located near Jersey Village, but we do not mind a commute. (Atlantans are used to long commutes in heavy traffic) I am specifically looking for information on the Bridgeland community and Cross Creek Ranch communty. As well as information on Cy-Fair district, Lamar Isd, and Katy Isd. Also, I read that the Cy-Fair district has an open class policy for elementary? Is that correct, and what are the thoughts on that. Thank you, I appreciate anything you can send my way.

I can not comment on the Cy-Fair open class policy since I do not have children in Cy-Fair.

As for the Communities I believe both are great communities and will be even better in the future. They both are very large and have quality developers developing them. When looking at communities I always look at what in the past they have developed and how has it faired in the market after the developer is gone. Bridgelands developer General Growth is part owner of The Woodlands but not original developer of The Woodlands. Simon just announced their interest in purchasing General Growth so who knows how residential land development would fit into Simon’s master plan since primarily they are mall developers and operators. Cross Creek is developed by Trendmaker that has a long history of developing good long term communities that fair very well in the resale market, Green Trails and Grand Lakes on the west side of town.

Personally I prefer Cross Creek because of being in Katy ISD and I believe as LCISD gets more publicity we will find many of its suburban schools are comparable to KISD. In fact the LCISD elementary school that Cross Creek is currently zoned to has a great reputation and has for many years. Like I said earlier I can not comment on CY-Fair ISD but I hear that is a good district as well.

The drive for your husband to work would most likely be easier from the Bridgelands just because of the closer proximity to Jersey Village, but man 290 is a mess and the fix for it is still got a little while to go, that is a problem I think the Bridgelands will have to overcome to continue to grow for buyers who do not work off of 290. If you chose Cross Creek your husband would most likely go up FM 1463 to I-10 (which is great now that it is widened and open) and then head north on the Sam Houston Tollway, I am sure another poster on this site could give you an estimated commute time for this

I prefer the amenities Cross Creek has to offer as well, a full service professionally managed Fitness Center that is part of your HOA dues, resort pool with water slide built into a 40 foot hill, and the landscape is just beautiful out there. I do not know how many trees they have planted but literally it is at least 10,000 in their first phase of development. The landscaping plan is nothing like any other master planned community in the area. They have a large creek that they are widening and landscaping with wide trails on each side of it, that I am told is the first creek restoration project like this in the Greater Houston area.

With the plans now moving forward to extend the frontage roads of the Westpark Tollway out the entrance of Cross Creek, it will be even easier to get into the Galleria and Beltway 8 area in the not to distant future.

Hope I have helped

Bridgeland will be MUCH closer - to commute, I would go south on Fry until Highway 529 and shoot straight over to Jersey Village. Two other neighborhoods you might like that are fairly close are Coles Crossing and Lakes on Eldridge. I can't really see how you would avoid 290 from Coles but you aren't on it very long. Lakes on Eldridge would be easy.

Thank you for all the information. I hear good things about Cross Creek and love the Trendmaker homes. The taxes in both communities are very high considering what we are paying now, but I understand Tx does not have a state tax and perhaps this will make up the difference. Anyway, we are going to look further into Cross Creek.

Thanks again!

Cross Creek is going to be a loooong commute. Yes, Trendmaker is great.
