I have used Gexa and Reliant in the past and both were excellent - no problems, but now I need to find a 6 month plan for my daughter's apartment. Gexa's rate is variable, and Reliant has a surcharge.

I checked on "power to choose" and there are a ton of different companies to choose from. Any advice on who to go with and who to avoid??? Thanks!

I just changed to Amigo Energy last month, got an 8.4 for 12 month fixed rate. It is about 8.7 now.

I've used Gexa, Dynowatt, and ended up back with Reliant when NPC dumped us several years ago. Never had any problems except that they would not match rates at renewals, thus I just switched to get the lowest rates.

Good luck!

Pick the lowest one for a 6 month plan and be done with it. Don't make it harder than what it needs to be.

Pick the lowest one without a monthly base charge, or at least one is waved if you use a certain amount. The "electric companies" are just glorified billing companies.

They're all recommended. It's not like they're the ones generating and transmitting electricity.

We are with Star Tex, never had any problems with them and I like the fact they remind you when your anniversary is coming up so you can renew on another plan rather than end up of the variable plan in between times.

I just went from Reliant @ 7.1 cents to TriEagle Energy @ 8.5 cents.
Reliant has been good in terms of billing. No crap.
Centerpoint is my delivery.

Default Centerpoint energy delivery charges

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I've been trying to compare rates and in the Centerpoint area plans, the energy delivery charges on the plans I'm interested in vary from .3 cents per kwh to 3.3 cents per kwh. It makes a big difference. Can anyone help me find information or explain why the delivery charges can vary so widely between plans in the same location ? I can understand making minor changes as new plans are offered, but the widely varying charges are on existing plans currently available.

Good info. Doesn't totally address your question:
