I am a mother of a 4 yr old, and my husband and I are considering having another child. I was induced with my first, and I ended up having to have a c-section. My first pregnancy experience was a nightmare, and I refuse to go through my second that way. I am currently searching for a doctor who WILL NOT make me go through another c-section just because I've already had one before. I would at least like to try to have a vbac. Please refer me to anyone who would allow this in the Houston/Galveston region...

My wife, who is 7 months pregnant with our 2nd, goes to Ferdinand Plavidal and loves him. His office is in the Medical Center.

Also try The Women's Specialists of Houston in the Medical Center for VBAC-friendly docs. Drs. Damla Dryden and David Zepeda are very well regarded, as are the other members of the practice in general.

Dr. Klein in Webster is a HUGE advocate for VBACS. He is very friendly. If you are looking for a more personal expeirence though and who will listen to your every wish, I would go with a midwife, Jackie Griggs, who owns a birth center in Pasadena is wonderful.

Houston Women's Care Associates also do VBACs. I also had a c-section, but I have already spoken with my doctor there about doing a VBAC in the future.

I'm not an advocate of having a midwife...but if you are thinking about going this route...please consider what happened on the first pregnancy. You may want to have a natural birth, but there is a slight chance you may end up with another c-section after all. Make sure your midwife is highly certified and better if she's affiliated with a medical group of MD's. I have heard some crazy stories about midwives that do the birth at home and I just don't like the idea. This is part because the licensure is different in every state from very minimal requirements to highly skilled.

Some physicians will allow some time for you to meet them (not an actual doctor's appt) - just the same way pediatricians do when you're choosing them. Make sure you ask all your questions and that you both think alike so that there arent any issues in the months to come. Good luck and hope your pregnancy goes well and your baby is healthy.

As for me I see Jonna Miller at Houston Women's Care Associates. Their practice are all women doctors and nurse practitioners. They are located near Woman's Hospital of TX on Fannin Street. Their website is hwca.net
